DILG Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) National Calibration
PHILSSA participated in the DILG Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) National Calibration held last July 18-19, 2019 at the Upper Story Serviced Apartments in Cubao, Quezon City. The SGLG is an award, incentive, honor and recognition-based program for all LGUs. It monitors the performance of LGUs in seven governance areas namely: financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, business friendliness and competitiveness, environment management, peace and order and tourism, culture and arts.
PHILSSA is the CSO representative of the DILG-MIMAROPA Region. It has been participating in the SGLG review and validation sessions in the past 2 years.
NGOs in Action: Seminar on Internal Control for NGOs
PHILSSA attended the Seminar on Internal Control for NGOs organized by the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants last July 19, 2019 at the PICPA Bldg in Mandaluyong City. PICPA presented updates on SEC and BIR requirements for NGOs, Philippine Internal Control for NGOs and Principles and components of Internal Control.
Community Driven Development Communities of Practice (CDD-COP) Consultation Meetings
PHILSSA and its member, Urban Poor Associates attended the 1st CCD-COP Consultation Meeting held on July 2, 2019 at Elan Hotel in Greenhills, San Juan City. The KC-NCDDP Team presented their knowledge management initiatives and the knowledge resource center. They also discussed the highlights of proceedings during the consultations, workshops and fora with various stakeholders in 2018. This was followed by a consultation workshop and planning of next steps.
KC-NCDDP created the Community of Practice to share and promote learning along community-driven development practices among key partners from various institutions. The COP values knowledge and information exchange and aims to make new and strengthen existing connections between members.
Another consultation meeting for the CSOs was held last August 7, 2019 in the same venue. This was attended again by PHILSSA and its members COM, FDUP and PASCRES. KC-NCDDP presented about CCD Institutionalization. Workshops were conducted to discuss the possible areas of convergence for CCD initiatives and how the CSOs could help in pushing for the institutionalization of CCD.
PHILSSA and its members committed to continuously participate in the upcoming activities of the Communities of Practice.
KC-NCDDP Research Colloquium
PHILSSA together with its members, Foundation for the Development of the Urban Poor (FDUP) and Community Organizers Multiversity (COM) joined the DSWD KC-NCDDP Research Colloquium conducted last July 23-25, 2019 at Sequoia Hotel in Diliman, Quezon City. National and regional studies on the impact and good practices on community driven development of KALAHI-CIDSS were presented. Break out workshops were also conducted to feedback on the design of the studies. The activity has also been a venue to share about the community driven development (CCD) experiences of various stakeholders including NGOs.
Asia-Pacific Housing Forum
PHILSSA and FDUP participated in the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum organized by Habitat for Humanity on July 29-31, 2019 at New World Hotel Makati with the theme, “Bahay-Buhay: Housing as a Key to Sustainable Growth”. The forum focused on three tracks: Land Ownership: The Key to Socialized Housing; Markets, Public and Private Sector Solutions for Housing; and Housing and Climate Change: Building Disaster Resilient Communities and Cities.
Representatives from the government, academe, international donors and NGOs gathered in this event to learn and discuss various urbanization, DRR and housing issues.
